We can't wait to see you at the Welcome Gala Banquet & Penny Social opening night of the 2009 NYS Master Gardener Volunteer Conference.
Genesee Master Gardener Volunteers have had great fun with events like this in their own county so they have teamed up with Orleans MGV to bring this event to our state conference.
They declare.
What ever you call it - penny socials, penny sales, it is an enduringly and popular special events fundraiser.
How will it work?
Master Gardener Volunteer throughout New York State will coordinate with their county leader to donate and deliver on July 22 creative theme baskets or other items of interest for the social. Genesee and Orleans Master Gardener Volunteers will organize items so by the evening social they will be on display for you to collectively view and bid on if you wish. Participating bidders will purchase bid tickets, browse the items and place their tickets in the jars in front the items they most desire. At the end bidding, a winning ticket is drawn from each jar. As you might imagine, the more tickets you put in for an item the greater the chance you'll be taking that prize home.
Where will the donations go?
Funds raised from our penny social will go to establishing an account for the development of educational opportunities and resources to help Master Gardener Volunteers maximize their community outreach. This might include the development of new factsheets on emerging issues, a mini-grant program for multi-county training or another effort which county educators have identified as a priority need through communication with their Master Gardener Volunteers.
